How to secure facebook account

In my earlier post I provided the tips to protect the Gmail account from being hacked. Now I am going to tell you how you can secure your facebook account. Now a days it is common news that someone's facebook account has been hacked. Here are some tips which will help you in securing your facebook account from being hacked.

1. Enable HTTPS

Whenever you bookmark the URL for Facebook or any of other social networks, be sure to use HTTPS instead of HTTP.  This means that you are securing your communication between the server and your computer. In fact, you will have to temporarily disable this feature any time you give access to a new application.  That alone will give you confidence that you have achieved a greater level of protection.

2. Facebook two- step authentication

As in previous post we have seen two step verification, similarly Facebook has also introduced two-step authentication service. This service is called Login Approvals. This lets you login to your Facebook account by using your password plus a security authentication code sent to your mobile device. By enabling this service, you will no longer be able to login to Facebook by only using your password. You will always be required to use the password and security code sent to your mobile device.

3. Enable login notifications

Enabling login notifications in Facebook will notify you when someone logs in from a suspicious location or computer. This is important if you always use your Facebook from the same computer and same Internet connection, Facebook will know your location and will trust the computer you’re working on. If you or someone else logs in from another location, you’ll get a notification from Facebook about the suspicious account activity.
To enable login notification, go to “Account -> Account Settings“.
Under settings tab expand “Account security -> Login notification“, check the following two boxes:
  • Send me an email
  • Send me a text message

You should also check history regularly and see if any suspicious person has logged into your Facebook account. Facebook history will tell you the recent IP addresses and devices used to login to your Facebook account.
